My family loved volleyball. They watched it all the time and my father was even the sponsor of a small team in the town where I grew up. Like a lot of small kids I wanted to play football. I actually didn’t like volleyball, even though I played both. But my mother didn’t like me playing football because I was very skinny. She wanted me to play volleyball, so I switched and was very angry. But after a while, about five years, I started liking the sport and developed a passion for it.

When I was 12, my coach told my parents that I was good at the game. I never really thought of myself as being good, but I believed my coach and I kept playing. After the finals of the championship league in Rome, my manager asked me if I wanted to go play in Russia. I said sure.

I came to Moscow last year, to play for Fakel. I lived in Moscow, but we always played in Siberia. It was crazy, the cold. Where I grew up it would get to about zero degrees, at minimum, but there it was minus 55. It was a big change.

There are some big differences between Italian and Russian volleyball. Russian volleyball is much more about power. The players spike very hard and serve very hard. In Italy this kind of playing doesn’t exist. They prefer tactics to strength.

Coming here was difficult, especially because of the language. I know Slovenian and some Croatian, but Russian is more difficult for me. But I like Moscow. It’s very different from Italy, of course, where the pace of life is much slower. Moscow is a very chaotic city. You have to run for everything all the time.

I would say that the best women in the world are Russian, better than in Italy. Well, it’s different, a different style. Italian women are very beautiful because they have fascino (charm, mystique). I find Russian women simpler, which I prefer because this is more interesting.

If I were watching a match between Russian and Italy, I would root for Italy every time, of course. I am Italian

Matej Cernic è stato operato ieri a Modena dal professor Montorsi che (fonte Gazzetta dello Sport) gli ha asportato tre calcificazioni al ginocchio destro.
Nessuna lesione ai tendini.

"I tempi sono da valutare — ha detto il martello azzurro al quotidiano — per Pechino sarà dura, ma io ci provo".

Matej effettuerà parte della riabilitazione con la Nazionale.

Altro passo avanti verso la finale scudetto per Dinamo Mosca ed Iskra Odintsovo che guadagnano un punto sul Lokomotiv Novosibirsk.

Nel match televisivo di giornata la formazione di Bagnoli fatica solo nel secondo set (rimontato da 20-22 e chiuso 28-26 al quarto set point da un ace jump flot di Korneev su Krasikov) e nel terzo (dove accelera nel finale: da 17-19 a 25-22) vendicando così la sconfitta dell'andata. Torna in patria in anticipo il brasiliano del Belgorod Samuel Fuchs.
